verden.

It is impossible to imagine American popular culture without Marvel
Comics. For decades, Marvel has published groundbreaking visual narratives
that sustain attention on multiple levels: as metaphors for the experience
of difference and otherness; as meditations on the fluid nature of
identity; and as high-water marks in the artistic tradition of American
cartooning, to name a few.
This anthology contains twelve key stories from the first two years of
Spider-Man's publication history (from 1962 to 1964). These influential
adventures not only transformed the super hero fantasy into an allegory for
the pain of adolescence but also brought a new ethical complexity to the
genre-by insisting that with great power there must also come great
responsibility.
A foreword by Jason Reynolds and scholarly introductions and apparatus by
Ben Saunders offer further insight into the enduring significance of The
Amazing Spider-Man and classic Marvel comics.
The Penguin Classics Marvel Collection presents the origin stories,
seminal tales, and characters of the Marvel Universe to explore Marvel's
transformative and timeless influence on an entire genre of fantasy.

The Black Panther is not just a super hero; as King T'Challa, he is also
the monarch of the hidden African nation of Wakanda. Combining the strength
and stealth of his namesake with a creative scientific intelligence, the
Black Panther is an icon of Afro-futurist fantasy. This new anthology
includes the Black Panther's 1966 origin tale and the entirety of the
critically acclaimed "Panther's Rage" storyline from his 1970s solo
series.

The often violent, visceral, and always provocative style of Japanese manga legend Gengoroh Tagame, one of the originators of Japanese bear culture, comes to life like never before in The Passion of Gengoroh Tagame, a new edition of the artist's first English-language collection. Husband
Set in contemporary suburban Japan, Our Colors is the story of Sora Itoda,
a sixteen-year-old aspiring painter who experiences his world in
synesthetic hues of blues and reds and is governed by the emotional
turbulence of being a teenager. He wants to live honestly as a young gay
man in high school, but that is still not acceptable in Japanese society.
His best friend and childhood confidante is Nao, a young woman whom
everyone thinks is (or should be) his girlfriend, and it would be the
easiest thing to play along--she knows he's gay but knows, too, how
difficult it is to live one's truth in his situation.
Sora's world changes forever when he meets Mr. Amamiya, a middle-aged
gentleman who is the owner and proprietor of a local coffee shop and is
completely, unapologetically out as a gay man. A mentorship and platonic
friendship ensues as Sora comes out to him and agrees to paint a mural in
the shop, and Mr. Amamiya counsels Sora about how to deal with who he is.
But it won't be easy. Mr. Amamiya paid a high price for his freedom of
identity, and when a figure from his past suddenly appears, the situation
becomes a vivid example of just how complicated life can be.
All Rise: Resistance and Rebellion in South Africa revives six true stories of resistance by marginalized South Africans against the country’s colonial government in the years leading up to Apartheid. In six parts—each of which is illustrated by a different South African artist—All Rise shares the long-forgotten struggles of ordinary, working-class women and men who defended the disempowered during a tumultuous period in South African history. From immigrants and miners to tram workers and washerwomen, the everyday people in these stories bore the brunt of oppression and in some cases risked their lives to bring about positive change for future generations.
Social justice, "woke" culture, social media, gender dynamics, and
insouciance intersect in this pandemic-inspired graphic novel about the
repercussions of making mistakes.
"Many artists re-channeled their creativity during the Covid-related
lockdowns, but few managed it with as much fiery elan and grace as
Graham." -Publishers Weekly Starred Review
Driving home from a wedding late one night during a heavy storm, out of
cell range, Glen blows out his tires. He knocks on the door of the only
house he sees and is greeted by an uncomfortably friendly middle-aged man,
Arthur, and his attractive younger wife, Cyndi. The strange couple pours
him a drink, and then more drinks, followed by odd confessions and an
unexpected offer that Glen can't refuse. Where Ultrasound zigs and zags
from there is into a dizzying plot involving mind control, government
secrets, gaslighting, and political intrigue that is always one step ahead
of the reader. Stechschulte's brilliant use of color and mastery of comics
storytelling yields a breathtaking puzzlebox of a sci fi thriller -- the
moment you finish, you will want to go back and reread Ultrasound from the
start.
Ultrasound has also been adapted into an acclaimed feature film directed by
Robert Schroeder and starring Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men), from a
screenplay by Stechschulte. The film earned raves at the 2021 Tribeca Film
Fest and is scheduled for theatrical release in March 2022 and will be
streaming on Hulu.
